How We Work Together

Consultation Process for Custom Mosaics

Initial Discussion

We’ll have a detailed conversation to cover all necessary aspects of your mosaic project, such as:

  • What you envision as the theme or focus of the artwork.

  • The size of the mosaic in centimetres.

  • Will the mosaic be:

    • Indoors

    • Outdoors/Sheltered: Under a patio roof or sheltered under an eave.

    • Outdoors: Fully exposed to the weather.

  • How you plan to display the mosaic.

  • Whether you lean toward naturalism or abstract styles.

  • Your colour preferences.

  • Any examples of art you’d like to influence the design.

  • The type of response you want the mosaic to provoke.

Feel free to ask any questions during and after this discussion.

Preliminary Quote

Based on our initial discussion, I will provide a preliminary quote, which includes the cost of fixings for hanging the mosaic. To begin the design process, I require a payment of 10% of the total quote.

Design Phase

I will create two or three design ideas for your review. After receiving your feedback, we will have a clearer direction for the project. Next:

  • I will develop a draft design.

  • The design phase may involve one to five drafts. Changes can range from simple adjustments, like altering the background colour, to significant changes in composition.

  • Once the design is finalized and signed off, a 40% payment is required to move to the making stage.

Making the Mosaic

I will transfer the design onto the board and begin placing the tessera (tile pieces).

I will send you regular update images of the ongoing work, unless you want to wait for the final reveal.

Before grouting, I will seek your input for any minor adjustments. I typically use two or three grout colours, matching the grout colour to the mosaic tiles.

Changes post-grouting may incur additional costs.

Handover

Upon completion, you will inspect the mosaic. The final 50% balance (with any adjustments) must be paid before the mosaic is handed over.

If an in-person inspection is not possible, I will send comprehensive photographs of the completed work.

After receiving the final payment, including postage, I will ship the mosaic to you, fully insured and with signature required.
